For much of the regular season, the New York Mets were underachieving. However, they are starting to look like the team we all thought they would be before the regular season began. They have won five in a row, and are sitting just 9.0-games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, at 55-48. Just a half-game behind them is the Atlanta Braves, at 54-48. They have taken five of the eight meetings with their Division rival this season, including the first two games of this series. Right now, the Braves are struggling, dropping six consecutive outings. Their offense has been hit or miss (no pun intended lol), while their pitching has been plowed for 39 runs during their current slide. And we all know they're pitching staff is supposed to be their strength. Speaking of pitching, Spencer Schwellenbach and Tyler MeGill are scheduled today. The Atlanta right-hander is 3-5 with a 4.62 ERA on the campaign. On the road in 2024, he is 1-2 with a 5.16 ERA, and overall, the team has dropped six of his nine turns. The New York right-hander has pitched very consistently since getting shellacked in his first two outings. Over his last eight appearances, he has allowed three runs or less in each. At home this season, he is 1-2, but owns an ERA of just 3.46. I know I repeat myself, but I'm going to do it again...baseball is the streakiest and trendiest of all the major sports. The Cincinnati Reds Starter today Abbott has pitched very well on the road this season as is evident by recording a 2.92 ERA in 11 away outings. In his most recent work he has garnered a stingy  2.31 ERA in four starts in the month of July.  The national league pitcher has also faired well vs the AL and has registered a 3.06 ERA  .  Considering the Reds opponents the Rays are  are hitting just  .228 when they are playing at home and  .220 in 18 games in the month of July they look like they will have more problems today bringing runs across the plate. Meanwhile, the Reds Littell is 3-7 overall this season with an ERA of 4.46. and my projections estimate the Reds should do just fine against him in this spot play and also according to my pitcher vs batting order power rankings finish strong vs a inconsistent Rays  bullpen. Note: Littell owns an ERA of 5.66 in four July  starts . The Reds have superior offensive numbers than the Rays with more  runs scored per game, SLG, OPS, home runs and get the nod . Also trading one of their most recognizable stars yesterday ( Randy Arozarena) will not do much for the Rays team moral here today as management looks like they have given up on them.

The Blue Jays took the opener of this series but I expect they'll have a tough time repeating that performance on Saturday afternoon.

Kevin Gausman will start for Toronto. He's been getting hit hard fairly consistently in recent starts as his FIP has risen to 3.92 and his WHIP to 1.30 - both numbers are north of his career averages. This isn't a favorable matchup for Gausman as current Rangers hitters have posted a batting average of .288 and an OPS of .887 in 104 career at-bats against him.

Michael Lorenzen will counter for Texas. His no-hitter last season was a one-off as he's not going to wow anyone with his pitching arsenal. The Rangers have won two of his last three starts and he has posted a respectable 3.77 ERA and 1.27 WHIP away from home. That's good enough for us as he faces an inconsistent Blue Jays offense.

Toronto used four relievers in last night's victory. Keep in mind it also dealt Yimi Garcia to the Mariners leaving it depth-shy in the latter innings. We'll gladly grab Texas at an underdog price in this bounce-back spot. Take Texas.
