The day starts early on Tuesday in college hoops and this game goes at noon EST. Siena is the class of the MAAC and the recent two-year run in the NCAA Tournament has given the Saints a lot of national attention. While that is great for the program and for the conference, it is also good from a gambling standpoint as it gives us inflated numbers and we can certainly take advantage. That is definitely the case this afternoon as this line may be considered on target but it is too high yet the public remains all over the Saints. There is a limited amount of wagers to go off of but nonetheless, with a huge majority of the wagers on Siena, the line has actually come down a half-point from opening and that is our typical reverse line move caution flag. The Saints finished 27-8 last season after tearing through the MAAC regular season and Tournament and then took out Ohio St. in the big dance before losing a close game against Louisville in the second round. They are once again the heavy favorites in the conference as they bring back four starters and they are already off to a solid start with a win at Tennessee St. on Friday. Tennessee St. is picked to finish last in the Ohio Valley Conference so not a lot can be taken from that victory. While the team may be loaded, gone is Kenny Hasbrouck, the MAAC Player of the Year last season and his loss is a tough one no matter how many other players are back. Northeastern had a pretty disappointing finish last season after a great start and a possibility of a CAA Championship. The Huskies lost four of their final seven games including the opening game in the CAA Tournament but still made it to the postseason as it went to the CBI Tournament where they defeated Wyoming before losing at UTEP. Like Siena, Northeastern brings back four starters including CAA Player of the Year candidate Matt Janning. The Huskies, who are playing their first game of the season, will be trying to slow the speed-driven Saints and they play a physical defense that last season held opponents to 60.4 ppg, which was second best in the CAA. A sign of their experience, the Huskies won 11 road games during the 2008-09 season, which suggests they won’t be intimidated by Siena’s 21-game winning streak at home, which is the third longest in the nation. Northeastern falls into a great early season situation as well. Play on non-conference underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points involving two teams from mid-major conferences that have four starters returning from last year in the first 10 games of the season. This situation is 49-21 ATS (70 percent) since 1997 with the average point differential being only -2.7 ppg. The public only knows about Siena but the experience of Northeastern pays off here. 9* Northeastern Huskies
