Fargo’s Miami at Towson Picks
November 12, 2009
It was another winning night for Matt Fargo and his clients last night, as he got his season of college basketball picks off to a great start with his winner on Towson over Miami Ohio. Nobody works harder on a consistent basis to beat the college basketball spreads and if you don’t believe us just take a look at his writeup from last night’s contest:
I was very surprised to see Miami be the favorite in this game when the lines came out. The RedHawks are a team in transition and lost quite a bit from last season where it went 17-13 including 10-6 in the MAC. They have to replace three starters, three very big starters for that matter, and one of the two returning starters won’t even start in this opening game. Junior Antonio Ballard, who missed much of the preseason with a foot stress fracture started 16 games last year and is the team’s top returning rebounder and second-leading returning scorer. He will play but he will not be in the starting lineup as Miami wants to bring him along slowly and don’t rush things. There is not a lot of experience and it will take some time for this team to come together. The last time we saw Towson, the 11th seeded Tigers made a two-game run in the CAA Tournament before they ran out of gas against George Mason. Considering they were 10-22 heading into the tournament, that two-game run was huge for the Tigers to build some momentum heading into this season. Towson brings back all five starters and this is the most experienced team in the six years head coach Pay Kennedy has been there. The Tigers are short on starts but full of balance with a lightening quick points guard in Troy Franklin, a solid backcourt mate in Brian Morris who led the CAA in assist/turnover ratio and plenty of size down low. The returning experience puts the Tigers into a great early season situation. Play on any team in the first 5 games of the season that was outscored by opponents by four or more ppg last season, with all five starters returning. This situation is 76-39 ATS (66.1 percent) since 1997. We will gladly jump on the much more experienced underdog playing at home. 7* Towson Tigers
