**7** BLOWOUT of the Week** Georgia St. is going to surprise a few people in the CAA this season. The Panthers went 9-21 and 5-13 in the conference last season but that far from tells the story. Georgia St. lost 11 games by six points or less and six of those losses came down to the final possession. This team was extremely competitive down the stretch and the season ended with a one-point setback against William & Mary in the CAA Tournament, who eventually made it to the championship game.
This team is absolutely loaded. They are so loaded that even though they have four returning starters, three of those may be replaced or at least have their playing time cut. The big player returning is guard Leonard Mendez, who averaged 16.0 ppg, which was 5th in the conference, while finishing on the All-CAA third team. He was relied upon quite a bit last season as he was the only player on the team to finish the season averaging double-digits in scoring.
The Panthers bring in five transfers who sat out last year but are now eligible. Joe Dukes is a guard coming in from Wake Forest, forwards Xavier Hansbro and Trey Hampton come from Mississippi, both of whom played under coach Rod Barnes with the Rebels and forward Bernard Rimmer comes over from Mississippi St. Last but not least is guard Dante Curry who comes in from South Florida. Those are five major schools these kids started out at so for a team from the CAA to land them in one season is amazing.
Bowling Green brings back all five starters from a team that had an above average season as far as preseason expectations went. Head coach Louis Orr is already making his mark but he still has a ways to go. The Falcons are young and need improvements in some key areas and while Georgia St. should have no problem with a full squad, Bowling Green is giving the Panthers a break. Leading scorer Nate Miller and second leading scorer Chris Knight as both suspended for this game. 7* Georgia St. Panthers
