Fargo’s Cornell vs Indiana NCAA Basketball Picks
November 30, 2008
Today we are looking at one of Matt Fargo’s premium college basketball picks. The following play is on the game between Cornell and Indiana. Our NCAA basketball odds show Cornell favored by 3 points on the road, but let’s see what side Fargo is on and read his analysis to find out why he likes what he’s betting.
**5** NCAA Hoops Underdog Play of the Day Who would have predicted the day that Cornell would be favored over Indiana in Bloomington? I for one never would have and quite honest I don’t believe it should be. It is no secret that the Hoosiers are starting over as they lost nearly everything from last season but one thing needs to be taken into consideration. Despite some players backing out of their commitments to Indiana, this is still one of the stories programs in college basketball and they still get players.
Freshmen will be counted on this season for the Hoosiers and we are already seeing it. Five of the top six scorers are all in their first season with Indiana and while that may seem like a big liability, it can actually work in its favor. There is far from any pressure on this team so it can simply just go out and play. The Hoosiers were dominated in Maui by Notre Dame and St. Joe’s and barely beat Chaminade but now they are back home where they are 2-0 on the season.
Indiana took out Northwestern St. and IUPUI at Assembly Hall, both of whom are pretty good teams. The Hoosiers allowed 36 percent shooting in those two games combined including 26.8 percent from long range. Head coach Tom Creen has a tough project ahead but he will get 110 percent out of his players every game. While Cornell won the Ivy League last season with a 14-0 record, right now the team is short-handed. Guards Louis Dale and Adam Gore have not played after averaging 23.9 ppg last season.
Dale was last year’s Ivy League Player of the Year and Gore is a two-time All-Ivy League selection so that shows what is missing. Gore is definitely out while Dale is questionable and it is likely he sits another one out. If he does go, he won’t be much of a factor considering Friday was his first full practice of the season. Cornell has lost its only true road game of the season as it was ripped pretty good by Siena. The Big Red shot just 35 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from the line. 5* Indiana Hoosiers
